In this poem written and performed by the founder of True My Voice, Alhanislam, stories of people suffering from neglected tropical diseases are brought to life.

In this episode of Escape The Neglect, produced by True My Voice and Devex in partnership with the Gates Foundation, spoken word artist and founder of True My Voice Maryam Bukar Hassan, also known as Alhanislam, gives a voice to the millions of people suffering from neglected tropical diseases, or NTDs.

Through evocative storytelling, the emotional poem brings to life the stories of countless people who suffer not only from the diseases but also from systemic neglect.

Written and performed by Alhanislam, the piece is not only intended as a form of art; it is advocacy — a reminder that true progress is not measured by wealth, but by compassion.
