Few issues have been politicized in the way that migration has in the last few years.
On the one hand, that makes the work to secure migrants’ rights exceedingly difficult. Yet on the other hand, events like the Syrian refugee crisis have driven unprecedented attention to complex issues of migration and human mobility in the modern world.
The International Organization for Migration is at the center of this storm. Devex spoke with Ambassador Laura Thompson, the IOM’s deputy director general, to hear her assessment of the current state of migrants’ rights, the efforts underway to integrate them, and the role for the private sector in that process.
