The Democratic Republic of Congo, located in Central Africa, is the largest country in the sub-Saharan region. Known for its abundant natural resources such as cobalt and copper minerals, the country is also equipped with a vast arable land and hydropower potential.
While full of potential in terms of its resources and biodiversity, the DRC also has a long history of conflict over said resources, land, and power, resulting in long-term political instability and crises. Therefore, there is a need for urgent and continuous development work in the country.
Several humanitarian organizations, including Europe-based organizations such as COOPI, Concern Worldwide, the Danish Refugee Council, and the Norwegian Refugee Council have been actively involved in emergency relief operations in the DRC. The United Nations also established the need for peacekeeping efforts through its Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo, or MONUSCO.
