Ukraine, one of the biggest countries in Europe, is home to a large agricultural industry and relies on it as a major source of export revenues. But in the wake of Russia’s full-scale invasion that began two years ago, Ukraine’s industries, including agriculture, have been badly affected, and it has lost a significant amount of its gross domestic product.

While years of armed conflict and the COVID-19 pandemic were already creating significant humanitarian needs in Ukraine, several global development organizations ramped up their efforts in response to Russia’s invasion and show no signs of slowing down.

Refugee-focused organizations such as the Danish Refugee Council and the UN Refugee Agency, and emergency-focused organizations such as the World Food Programme, World Health Organization, and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies have been among the most active in the country in terms of staffing.
