Continuing the coverage of the World Bank's top contractors, Devex has analyzed its major contract awards to identify the top U.S. suppliers last year. The results show that in the 2020 fiscal year, the United States ranked 21st as a World Bank supplier country and U.S.-based companies were awarded 96% less funding than their Chinese counterparts.
The bank awarded $74.1 million for 53 major contracts to U.S. suppliers, excluding contracts that are subject to the bank’s review after procurement. Of the total awarded funding, 70% or $69.8 million went to nonprofits and firms, while the remaining $4.3 million was awarded to individual consultants.
A trend analysis of the past three years indicates that the total value of contracts awarded to U.S.-based suppliers has declined since 2018.
