Turkey

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan was scheduled to visit Brussels and Germany earlier this week in an attempt to revive the country’s flagging bid to join the European Union, Reuters says. Turkey began negotiating for entry into the bloc in 2005, but talks have stalled over issues including the division of Cyprus and reservations of France and Germany to grant Turkey, a Muslim country, full membership into the bloc. There is also skepticism in the EU headquarters in Brussels about Turkey’s willingness to implement reforms before its scheduled parliamentary election in June, Reuters adds.
