The United Kingdom government has admitted it does not know if it will meet a “commitment” to ensure aid programs tackle the barriers people living with disabilities face in society, after years of spending cuts.
A flagship promise was made two years ago to “make the UK’s Official Development Assistance spend … disability inclusive” — but the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has no target date for achieving it.
Now, an inquiry by Parliament’s International Development Committee will examine the “adequacy and effectiveness of the FCDO’s disability and inclusion rights strategy” and the “consequences” of budget slashing.
