The 2022 Nobel Peace Prize has been jointly awarded to the Center for Civil Liberties, or CCL, in Ukraine, which was recognized for its work promoting democracy and investigating alleged Russian war crimes in the country.
The other awardees were Ales Bialiatski, a Belarusian human rights campaigner, and Russian human rights organization Memorial. All were called “outstanding champions of human rights, democracy and peaceful coexistence.”
“They have made an outstanding effort to document war crimes, human rights abuses and the abuse of power. Together they demonstrate the significance of civil society for peace and democracy,” said a statement from the Norwegian Nobel Institute.
