Neglected crises feel more neglected than ever thanks in large part to Ukraine, which has sucked up donor and media bandwidth — even though there’s a laundry list of other crises that are just as consequential and compelling.
That list includes Burkina Faso, which has the ignominious distinction of topping the Norwegian Refugee Council’s latest neglected displacement crises report for the first time. The Democratic Republic of Congo is second, having occupied the first or second slot every year since the report’s inception seven years ago. Most countries on the list are in Africa, although three are from Latin America.
The full list in order this year is: Burkina Faso, DRC, Colombia, Sudan, Venezuela, Burundi, Cameroon, Mali, El Salvador, and Ethiopia.
