The United Nations Industrial Development Organization will collaborate with China to help mitigate climate change by boosting clean energy investments under Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism while increasing hydropower utilization in Africa. UNIDO and China will carry out clean energy initiatives such as low-carbon economy transition, and technology transfer and adoption in the next three years. The U.N. agency has coordinated with officials from China and Sierra Leone for the construction of a small hydropower plant on Bankasoka River in Sierra Leone, which is due to commence next month and be completed by the end of 2009.
