UN Millennium Campaign Adopts New Strategy in North America

The United Nations Millennium Campaign has adopted a new strategy in North America, which is seen to deepen its collaboration with the U.N. Foundation.

The campaign, which focuses on raising awareness about the U.N. Millennium Development Goals, closed in March its North America office in Washington, D.C. Anita Sharma, the U.N. Millennium Campaign regional coordinator for North America, is now the director of MDG initiatives at UNF, with a focus on the maternal and child health strategy launched at the end of the MDG summit in September in New York.

“Having worked very closely with UN Foundation for nearly three years, my transition is pretty seamless and I am extremely excited to help build on the energy around Every Women, Every Child to broaden our advocacy efforts and to galvanize new commitments,” Sharma said in a note shared through email to Devex.

Sharma’s transition is expected to boost UNF’s commitment to supporting the MDGs while providing the U.N. Millennium Campaign with the opportunity to continue its engagement in North America, according to a joint email by UNF CEO Kathy Calvin and U.N. Millennium Campaign Director Corinne Woods.
