Close to 775,000 pregnant women, children under five and elderly people will receive food rations in Cuba as per the latest announcement of the World Food Program. According to the United Nations agency, it will run the three-month, $3.7 million operation in the drought-hit eastern provinces of Guantanamo, Granma, Santiago de Cuba, Las Tunas, Holguin and Camaguey. The food handouts will include rice, beans and cooking oil. Despite the passing of Tropical Storm Arlene, the recent downpour could only give the people short-lived relief.
