What are U.N. Women’s ambitions for post-2015 and what challenges remain in attaining normative standards for women at the highest levels?
It’s crucial now to ensure that the United Nations as a whole “lifts its game and is as coordinated as possible on gender equality and women’s empowerment,” John Hendra, the agency’s deputy executive director of policy and program, told Devex Editor Rolf Rosenkranz at the 2013 European Development Days in Brussels.
“Were seeing much more engagement by our country teams, much more focus in U.N. peace missions on gender equality and the situation of women,” said Hendra, adding there are three things he’d like to see happen in the coming year to advance women’s empowerment.
