Energy and environment initiatives will have the biggest budget among the four components of the U.N. Development Program's multi-annual action in Kenya, a UNDP program officer confirmed.
Of the estimated US$100 million budget for the 2009-2013 country program, US$52.2 million will support projects on energy efficiency, sustainable management of natural resources and climate change interventions. Implementation of these activities will most likely begin next year as projects from the previous program are still ongoing, she said.
The three other components of the UNDP program are democratic governance, poverty reduction, and crisis prevention and recovery.
