U.S.-based foundations and charities have gathered more than USD1.1 billion for the Haiti relief efforts as of May 11, 2010. The sum includes nearly USD66 million raised through a telethon led by U.S. entertainers in January, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy.
Among others, the American Red Cross raised approximately USD444 million as of May 6. This amount includes the USD6 million the organization got from the Hope for Haiti celebrity telethon.
Catholic Relief Services collected USD135.7 million as of May 10, while CARE USA raised nearly USD18 million as of May 7. Doctors Without Borders USA received more than USD61 million through April.
Oxfam America reported receiving USD23.2 million as of May 10, including the USD8 million from the Haiti telethon. Donations to Save the Children USA totaled USD23 million as of May 10.
