Antonio Guterres will serve another five years to lead the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the U.N. General Assembly agreed April 22. Guterres was first appointed to the office in 2005.
The U.S. supports the reappointment of Guterres, the U.S. representative for economic and social affairs in the U.N. said in an address. Ambassador Rick Barton said the U.S. is impressed with Guterres’ professionalism, leadership and vision for addressing the world’s humanitarian agenda.
