USAID: Responsibility now rests on Ghana locals

With the completion of the Government Accountability Improve Trust in Ghana’s Volta region, an official of the project sponsor, the U.S. Agency for International Development, stressed that local officials now bear the onus of ensuring its sustainability. “The true success of GAIT II will be measured by whether the high level of local government-citizen interaction that began under it will continue after the project ends,” said USAID representative Robert Hellyer during the ceremony handing over the initiative to the Ho Municipal Assembly. The project aims to promote democratization and decentralization, strengthen civil society, and boost community advocacy for quality education.
