EDITOR’S NOTE: The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition says it looks forward to building on the robust bipartisan support for the U.S. foreign affairs budget, which funds programs that it says are critical to create a better and safer world. The statement was released in the wake of the Nov. 2 midterm elections, which resulted to the Republicans taking back the House of Representatives.
Washington, DC— The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition today released the following statement from Executive Director Liz Schrayer on the Midterm Elections:
“With all of the pundits predicting a partisan divide, one issue both Democrats and Republicans support is the small but critical spending in the International Affairs Budget. While we recognize the budget realities, it is critical to support Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and our military leaders who have continued to call for greater investments in the civilian side of our global engagement tools.
“We look forward to working with long-time friends, new members of Congress, including the new House leadership, to build on the strong bipartisan support for the International Affairs Budget’s cost-effective programs which are critical to building a better, safer world.”
The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (www.usglc.org) is a broad-based influential network of 400 businesses and NGOs; national security and foreign policy experts; and business, faith-based, academic and community leaders in all 50 states who support a smart power approach of elevating diplomacy and development alongside defense in order to build a better, safer world.
