Activists in Europe and Uganda are protesting the ongoing construction of a dam at Bujagali Falls, Lori Pottinger wrote on the Huffington Post. Supporters of the project, which aims to address Uganda’s energy needs, include the World Bank and European Investment Bank.
Uganda’s National Association of Professional Environmentalists has thrice filed a complaint against the institutions. But “the banks have taken few steps to resolve the problems.”
NAPE argued that the project will only benefit the elite and leave out many, particularly in the the rural areas, as there are no plans for transmission line extension.
