The World Food Program is asking donors to contribute $50 million to ease the Burundi food crisis, which it expects to worsen this year. Guillaume Foliot of the WFP's mission in Burundi said the money will assure the supply of some 85,000 tons of food to 1.8 million hungry people over the coming months. In addition, the agency is requesting $63 million in aid for southern Africa. It will use the funds to feed as many as 10 million people in Zimbabwe, Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique, Lesotho and Swaziland through June.
