WFP to Augment Farmers' Incomes in Developing Nations

The World Food Program will help provide reliable markets for surplus crops of small farmers in developing countries particularly in Africa and Central America. “Purchase for Progress is win-win – we help our beneficiaries who have little or no food and we help local farmers who have little or no access to markets where they can sell their crops,” said WFP Executive Director Josette Sheeran. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Howard G. Buffett Foundation and the Belgian government pledged USD76 million for the program.
