Working for the United Nations Development Program is exciting, says innovation specialist Benjamin Kumpf, because part of his role is to encourage colleagues in country offices to push boundaries, especially now that there is strong support from management and the Danish government for their innovation work.
Kumpf pushes UNDP staff to question their own work as well as the organization’s overall approaches, and to work with beneficiaries on the ground to create solutions rather than work “for” them.
In a video interview with Devex, Kumpf cited several key qualities that may give job seekers a leg up as they apply for positions focusing on innovation: optimism, critical thinking and a high level of curiosity to look for new approaches to boosting development.
