What's missing in the development climate conversation?

In the immediate wake of a historic climate change agreement in Paris, the resounding sentiment is that everything has changed.

But for development organizations, that is not necessarily the case, according to Rupa Mukerji, co-head of advisory services at HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation. “It’s not something new. It’s doing development in a sustainable manner, with a more long-term vision,” Mukerji told Devex associate editor Richard Jones in this video interview.

As climate change action — and funding — gains momentum, the challenges of innovation are largely institutional challenges, Mukerji said — to break down silos and create pathways for science to better inform programs. Not least of all, organizations must look harder at the links between climate change mitigation and adaptation, a bridge that has only recently begun to be built.
