As fragile countries fail to emerge from a continuous cycle of conflict, natural disasters and food insecurity, funding trends are struggling to meet the demands of international humanitarian assistance — do we need to rebalance the mix between funds allocated for humanitarian aid and for long-term development?

It’s not necessarily about that, but rather making sure the development funds create the resilience necessary to mitigate the effects of the crises when they occur, according to European Union humanitarian aid chief Kristalina Georgieva, who sat down for a video interview with Devex President and Editor-in-Chief Raj Kumar in our Washington, D.C. studio.
