Over the past six months, volunteer sending organizations and volunteers around the world have used #DoingMore to engage in honest conversation about the state of the industry — taking a closer look at mainstays like USAID’s Farmer-to-Farmer program, examining what it takes to shape a sustainable international volunteer program and forecasting the bright future of corporate volunteerism.
In an effort to uncover good work as well as prompt healthy conversation about what needs to change for the better, Devex hosted online conversations and invited those with practical questions about their own efforts to pose them to the experts.
Now is the time to have such conversations, since the profiles of today’s international development volunteer — from recent graduates to career professionals and retirees — are as diverse as the contexts in which they work. And social changes such as urbanization, migration, economic crises and technological advances are not only rapidly changing the way people volunteer, but also the way volunteer sending organizations evaluate their work.
