By Kimberley Ann Torres, Justin Sablich // 06 October 2023
We recently analyzed job salary data for the chief of party role — one of the most senior positions for global development professionals who specialize in project management. As part of an ongoing effort to highlight salary trends across the development sector, we turn our attention to the deputy chief of party position to highlight how much of a compensation difference there is between the two roles. The aim is to provide a snapshot of the compensation landscape for the deputy chief of party role, which is based on salary information Devex has obtained from organizations and working professionals since 2019. The focus of this analysis is based on 45 deputy chief of party job postings where the salary was either shared publicly or privately with Devex by 25 organizations. All salaries included in our analysis are on an annual basis, and those that were not initially disclosed in U.S. dollars were converted from their original currencies based on the rates of the job posting’s original publication date to maintain consistency. Overall, we found the average minimum deputy chief of party salary that organizations shared to be $74,166 while the maximum was $96,030. These two numbers reflect the salary range — the minimum and maximum salary a job candidate can expect to earn — that many job postings include when disclosing this information. Here is what else we’ve learned about deputy chief of party salaries, including trends and analysis based on geography, sector, and the top-paying roles we’ve seen over the past four years. Deputy chief of party salaries based on location The positions and salaries that organizations shared with us spanned 28 countries, ranging from as low as $35,473 for a deputy chief of party role based in Ghana to a high of $205,000 for a posting in the United States. In terms of total deputy chief of party postings by region, North America and North Africa/Middle East both had eight postings. However, there was a wide gap between the average maximum salaries offered in these areas, with $157,213 for North America and $59,108 in North Africa/Middle East. Top-paying deputy chief of party positions Of the chief of party job postings advertised on Devex with salaries shared by the hiring organizations, the following positions offered the highest maximum salary.
