Sri Lanka will receive a total of USD108 million from the World Bank for its projects on infrastructure, higher education and tourism. Of the amount, USD50 million will be spent for the repair of critical infrastructure including rural roads, culverts and bridges to public buildings, waste disposal, and rural water supply in the country’s North and East regions. Some USD40 million will be used to bolster the economic and social relevance and quality of higher education institutions in the country. The project will also support the establishment of higher education institutions in the conflict-ravaged North ad East regions. The remaining USD18 million is earmarked for the capacity building of the institutional structure of Sri Lanka’s tourism sector.
