World Bank Offers Help in Improving Environmental Infrastructure Around Major Chinese River

The World Bank is spending USD100 million to improve water supply, wastewater and solid waste services in selected small towns in Zhejiang Province’s largest river and major water source, Qiantang. In a Jan. 20 news release, the bank noted that the Chinese province’s rapid growth and urbanization has led to the deterioration of quality of water coming from the River. At present, only 62 percent of the monitored river water quality is meeting the required quality standard.
