The World Bank approved June 23 two grants for Tajikistan. The grants include USD24.4 million for the Fourth Programmatic Development Policy Grant and USD10 million in additional financing for the Ferghana Valley Water Resource Management. The first grant aims to help the government lessen the impact of the global financial crisis and push through with its medium-term reforms, while the latter aims to increase the coverage of drained and irrigated areas in the Bobojon Gafurov and Kannibodom districts, strengthen the early warning system of the Kayrakkum dam, and assess geotechnical risks linked to the dam.
