World Bank Set to Release a New Country Partnership Strategy with Uruguay

    By Celeste Estrella // 23 August 2010

A World Bank official in Uruguay said a new five-year strategy is slated for approval in September 2010.

The bank and the government of Uruguay are conducting discussions on the possible areas of cooperation such as the environment, social development, and equity and competitiveness.

Devex Early Intelligence initially reported that the World Bank had plans to support natural resource management, environment,institution-building, infrastructure and railway rehabilitation projects in Uruguay. But the World Bank representative said resources earmarked for some of these investments were rechanneled into thepublic sector, competitiveness and social inclusion development policy loan. The DPL aims to assist the government in addressing the financial crisis.

Should any of the earlier planned projects push through, they will be included in the new strategy, the World Bank official said.
