Action Alliance for Sustainable Bananas (ABNB)
The German Action Alliance for Sustainable Bananas is a dialogue and action forum. It brings together representatives from trade, retail, and politics as well as from consumer protection, civil society, and trade unions.
The goal is to bundle the activities of various actors in Germany and to promote more responsibility along the entire bananas’ supply chain – from production to the consumer. This is intended to make a significant contribution to the improvement of social, ecological and economic conditions in the countries of production. The activities at the national level are closely aligned with the World Banana Forum, which pursues these objectives at international level.
The Action Alliance was initiated by TransFair in autumn 2014. Since October 2015, the Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) has been supporting the Alliance on behalf of the German Government in an advisory and financial capacity. GIZ is responsible for the design and implementation of the Action Alliance and currently assumes the role of the Project Secretariat.
The overriding objectives of the ABNB are laid down in the Memorandum of Understanding. To achieve these goals, the participants of the Alliance developed a Framework for Action, which establishes the fields of activity for a more sustainable value chain. This document is the basis for activities that will be implemented by the Action Alliance’s members.See more
