ActionAid Italy is a member of the ActionAid international federation working with over 15 million people in Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America to achieve social justice, gender equality and poverty eradication. Established in 1989, it has been active for more than 30 years in Italy and in the world. ActionAid leads projects in Italy, Europe as well as in the Global South, through individual, high value and institutional funding, with a wide array of partners (including NGOs, CBOs, corporate partners and more). We put women and youth at the centre of all our interventions, for a sustainable and inclusive development and to contribute to the achievement of social justice wherever we operate. In 2018 we launched a new strategy, revolving around 3 main pillars:
In Italy and Europe this means: Right to live free from violence: The physical and psychological integrity of girls, young and adult women is a prerequisite for achieving gender equality in the enjoyment of all rights; Right to inclusive citizenship: Migrants, refugees and asylum seekers are holders of economic, social, and political rights, regardless of their origin, income, age, or gender.
In the Global South this means: Migration and development: we are active in areas of origin as well as transit of migration, to assist potential migrants, migrants en route and returnees to obtain full enjoyment of their rights.
In Italy and Europe this means: Redistribution of national wealth: Address national poverty and social marginalization; Redistribution of global resources: Build more inclusive and fairer European and global systems.
In the Global South this means: Sustainable livelihoods: we support communities in rural, peri-urban and urban areas to diversify and strengthen their livelihoods in a sustainable way. We adopt and promote the agroecological approach to rural development and foster the creation of social business that benefit the whole community.
In Italy and Europe this means: Citizen participation: Strengthen participation of citizens in decision-making processes and public life; Accountability of institutions and the private sector: Improve institutional accountability in the allocation and use of public funds and resources.
In the Global South this means: Humanitarian Emergencies: we are at the forefront of humanitarian response, prioritizing a female-led, community-based response to emergencies. Our programmatic work focuses, among other things, on food security, cash-based intervention, WASH and protection.
Where they work: They work in the Global North focuses in Italy and Europe. In the Global South, they work in all the countries of the Federation with specific focus on West Africa, East Africa and the Greater Middle East.See more
