ADEM - Agencia de Desenvolvimento Economico da Província de Manica
ADEM, Manica Province Economic Development founded in November of the year 2000 Agency is one of the first successful agencies constituted to promote and implement the LED strategy in the province.
DEL - Local Economic Development as a development strategy highlights the advantages of focusing on the territorial dimension rather than the sectoral dimension and integrating different aspects and development actors into a single strategy. It also gives greater emphasis to the governance and institutional structure in order to achieve greater sustainability and not only generate work, but decent work.
In Manica the LED approach was introduced by the Local Human Development Program in Mozambique, implemented by UNOPS in the period 1998 to 2003. The LED component of this program aimed at fundamentally improving living and working standards, creating opportunities and alleviating poverty based on local potentials and opportunities.
After 10 years, ADEM, known as "The Door to the Development of Manica", played an important role in enhancing the potentials and vectors of local economic development, promoting microfinance activities through savings and revolving credit groups, financing to viable business projects through the agency's credit fund, FADEL, agroprocessing through small fruit, nut and oil processing industries, vegetable production based on small-scale irrigation, support for agricultural marketing, commercial production of chickens, organization of producers with a view to promoting collective action, training of public institutions in LED matters just to mention a few examples.
