ACKU is working towards collecting and digitizing all the written information about Afghanistan. Founded in 1989, ACKU has managed to collect and digitized 400 thousands of manuscript related to Afghanistan and continues to do at the rate of digitizing 20 thousand manuscript per year. ACKU is also working towards promoting reading in Afghanistan. ACKU Box Library Extension (ABLE) was started for this purpose in 1996. Till date ACKU has managed to establish 218 libraries and publish 268 basic books through its ABLE project.
