The Alliance for Community Action (ACA) is a non- governmental organisation which was registered in December 2013 and begun major operations in December 2014. The ACA was founded when a number of individuals came together to set up an organisation that would promote community participation and accountability in development. However, because of funding challenges, the organisation restricted its activities to community sensitization which could be carried out with minimal voluntary resources in its first year of life.
Based on the voluntary activism by ACA members in 2014, it became clear that there was a need for citizen based advocacy in demanding for responsible and accountable management of public resources at national and local levels. At the end of 2014, ACA accessed HIVOS innovative funding for a project christened as the Ask Project. The aim of the Ask Project was to use innovative means to grow public resource accountability in Zambia. ACA very successfully implemented the Ask Project using the limited funding to introduce itself to the public, institute itself within Zambian civil society as well as set up a secretariat and governance structures of the organisation.
The ACA is registered as an NGO with the NGO ACT and has a board of 5 members. The ACA is run by a lean management team and supported by voluntary efforts of the members of the Board.
