Apps for Good is an education technology movement that is transforming the way technology is taught in schools, turning young tech consumers into tech creators. Apps for Good aims to unlock the confidence and talent of the next generation of problem solvers and digital makers: young people who are ready to tackle the 21st century workplace and are inspired to create new tech ideas that can change their world for good.
Apps for Good partners with educators in schools and learning centres to deliver its app development course to young people 8-18 years of age. Since 2010 the Apps for Good course has been delivered to over 50,000 students in more than 1,000 schools across the UK.
Apps for Good is a registered charity and is supported by partnerships with companies and foundations who share their vision of improving technology education. Corporate partners and sponsors include technology leaders Facebook, Google, Thomson Reuters, Barclaycard and Samsung to name but a few.
They provide free courses for teachers to use in their classroom. The course content helps 10-18 year-olds to build mobile apps and IoT (internet of things) products. The Expert volunteers support teachers, inspire students, and offer real-world experience in the classroom.
In the courses, students work together in teams to find issues they care about. Students go through all key aspects of new product development, from idea generation, technical feasibility and programming to product design, deciding on business models and marketing.
Vision
Apps for Good helps young people make their future with new technology.
Their goal is to produce more able, self-confident, collaborative young people, ready to make a difference to their world. Most children are consumers of technology; they want them to become makers using technology.
Apps for Good want to bring schools to life with creative programmes where young people work hard and have fun while learning. Teachers act as their guides through the programme, connecting them to developers and experts outside school to get real world insight.
Apps for Good are building a new model of education, where young people learn in more exciting and productive ways.
