The Asia and Pacific Transgender Network (APTN) was launched in 2009, when a group of transgender women from various Asia and Pacific countries came together to champion the health, legal and social rights of trans women. In 2011, a trans man drew attention to the need to advocate for trans men and joined the APTN Board. Over the years, APTN has worked to build relationships with trans communities, organizations, governments, healthcare providers and other key stakeholders throughout the region. APTN’s reports and publications have helped guide social policy reform and human rights advances for trans people in many countries including China, Pakistan, and Nepal. Today, APTN is a leader in advocating for the rights of trans and gender diverse people throughout Asia and the Pacific.
Advancing Justice, Rights And Access
APTN works at all levels to advocate and advance the social, health, and human rights of trans people throughout Asia and the Pacific. The focus of APTN’s mission and work is the trans and gender diverse communities. APTN has played an important role advocating for trans and gender diverse identities as a distinct demographic group with unique needs. To address and develop solutions to these needs, APTN works closely with trans and gender diverse communities, organisations, academics, government, health care providers and other key stakeholders.
Supporting The Growth And Development Of Trans People And Organisations
ATPN recognises the diverse communities, politics, and cultures that exist throughout this region and works closely with community partners to support them in developing programmes unique to the needs and context of the particular country. APTN partners with organisations throughout the region to help build capacity and unify trans communities in different countries to engage in dialogue and building a regional network.
APTN provides a platform for trans and gender diverse people to engage in community-to-community learning, build organisational capacity through workshops, and develop programme planning, implementation and evaluation of projects.
