Asociacion de Mujeres Meretrices de la Argentina
La Asociacion de Mujeres Meretrices de la Argentina (Ammar) was born in response to the constant siege and violence of the Police. Together we discover that the organization is the force and the engine to achieve objectives that benefit sex workers and society in general.
They started to meet at the end of 1994. In 1995 we joined the Central de Trabajadores Argentinos (CTA), which made it possible for us to know other realities and to abandon self-marginalization, recognizing ourselves as workers.
Since 1997, they have integrated the Network of Sex Workers of Latin America and the Caribbean (RedTraSex), which aims to support and strengthen organizations of women sex workers in the defense and promotion of their human rights. The Network is made up of 15 countries: Argetina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic and Uruguay.
Their history as organized sex workers shows us that we can not only denounce, but we can be ourselves who fight to transform a reality of abuse, exploitation and discrimination. We learned and developed the management capacity necessary for institutional growth and we strengthened ourselves in the constant search to make our rights effective. Sex workers have basic rights that help us as human beings, as women and as workers. We already learned it.See more
