About

Australian Doctors for Africa (ADFA) is a leading medical humanitarian organization providing medical training and services assistance, hospital equipment and structural redevelopments for vulnerable communities in East Africa, to enable greater access to treatment and long term sustainable development.

Australian Doctors for Africa engages Australian and African volunteer medical professionals to provide medical, surgical and nursing skill training services in Ethiopia, Somaliland Madagascar and the Comoros. Since the organisations establishment in 2005, ADFA has trained hundreds of medical specialists and students, conducted thousands of surgical procedures and consultations, and has dispatched millions of dollars’ worth of medical supplies and equipment throughout East Africa. The organisation has completed the construction and renovation of operating theatres and many small capital works projects that increase the range and access to services and improve sanitary conditions in local hospitals.

ADFA is a not-for-profit organization headquartered in Perth, Western Australia. It has no political or religious affiliations. It is a signatory of the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID), and the only Western Australian charity to be accredited by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

Currently it operates in four main locations:

  • Ethiopia
  • Somaliland
  • Madagascar
  • The Comoros Islands

ADFA is reliant on the generous donations of our corporate sponsors, donors and partners.

ADFA is run almost entirely by a team of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteer doctors, health care professionals, nurses, administrators and support staff.
