Founded in 1977, the National Association of Graduate Studies and Research in Social Sciences (Anpocs), a private non-profit organization, brings together more than a hundred graduate and research centers in anthropology, political science, international relations , sociology, from all over Brazil. Unlike other scientific associations, Anpocs is made up of institutional partners and not individual researchers. Our affiliates have more than 1200 university professors and researchers, high-level professionals, in addition to thousands of master's and doctoral students in centers located from north to south of the country.
Anpocs represents a significant portion of Brazilian intelligence and intellectuality. It has the capacity to make use of a wide accumulated knowledge on the most varied local, regional, national and international issues based on research and reflections based on different disciplinary points of view.
Interdisciplinarity is a hallmark of its professional meetings, held annually since 1977. Today, it brings together about 2000 participants. The association maintains the most important journal in its field in Brazil - Revista Brasileira de Ciências Sociais (RBCS) -, also with special issues in English. For more than three decades, he has also been publishing books that have become references in the social sciences. Among its wide-reaching initiatives are the traditional annual awards for best doctoral theses, master's dissertations and scientific works. Anpocs' prestige and importance are recognized nationally and internationally.
MISSION
Playing a role of representation, leadership and support for institutional consolidation, Anpocs's mission is to promote teaching, research and the dissemination of national scientific knowledge in the area of social sciences, articulating the production of the academic community with the agenda of issues in debate in Brazil and abroad.
OBJECTIVES
1. To encourage study, teaching and research within the social sciences.
2. Encourage social scientists to contribute to the analysis of development problems.
3. Promote scientific meetings, aiming at the exchange of information between its members and members of similar institutions, both Brazilian and foreign.
4. Develop the dissemination of studies in social sciences.
5. Act in the interest of Organs associated bodies and represent them with public and private bodies.
The Association's activities include:
• Annual meetings: space for working groups and various activities that have different themes and of indisputable scientific relevance.
• Thesis contests, scientific works and research projects.
• Portal: in spite of its high degree of internal articulation, the social sciences lacked a virtual space of communication that was equal to their community, their future challenges, as well as their articulation with Brazilian life.
• Social networks: Facebook, Twitter, Chat, Forums, Virtual Debates, Virtual Workgroups.
• Periodic meetings of the Executive Board and Committees, Commissions and Advisory Councils.
• Publications: two magazines (RBCS and BIB), Anpocs On-line (Biweekly Newsletter that circulates only in electronic version) and the publication in a book of awarded theses and dissertations in competitions held by the institution, in addition to other publications, fruits of projects and specific partnerships.
• Distance learning courses: meeting the demands for qualification and distance training of postgraduate and postgraduate students in social sciences from all over the country, Anpocs, through its Portal, provides the necessary resources for this accomplishment.
• Social Information Consortium - CIS: maintained by the association and the Department of Sociology at the University of São Paulo. It is a system for the exchange of scientific information about Brazilian society. It aims to offer free qualitative and quantitative data resulting from research on various aspects of social life.
