The Central American University (Universidad Centroamericana, UCA) is a private Jesuit university in Managua, the capital of Nicaragua. Founded in 1960, the university preceded its sister school in El Salvador by five years; it is now considered the premier private university in Nicaragua. Appropriate to the mission of the Jesuits in Central America, UCA has pledged to pursue social justice and good governance in the country.
Foundation
The Central American University (UCA) is the first private university created in Central America. It was founded in Nicaragua by the Society of Jesus on July 23, 1960, as a non-profit, autonomous educational institution of public service and Christian inspiration.
The UCA is part of the Association of Universities Entrusted to the Society of Jesus in Latin America (AUSJAL), constituted by 31 universities in 14 countries of the region and integrated into the network of institutions of Higher Education of the Jesuits in Europe, Asia and U.S.
