About

The Central Bank of the Republic of Guinea (BCRG) was established by Decree No. 276 / PRG / 61 of 27 July 1961 of the Presidency of the Republic of Guinea. In June 1994, new laws were promulgated on the regulation of credit institutions (banking law) on the one hand, and the reorganization of the statutes of the BCRG on the other hand. These texts give extensive powers to the BCRG for the monetary management and supervision of the banking and financial system and harmonize its statutes with the new orientations of its mission. 

BCRG missions

The BCRG has the exclusive privilege of issuing legal tender notes and coins in the Republic of Guinea .

The BCRG implements the monetary policy of the Republic of Guinea. For the part of the foreign exchange reserves of the State managed freely

the Bank may transact securities and deposits in foreign currencies and foreign exchange on both spot and forward markets. It offers permanent facilities to the National Treasury within the limits of advances granted to the State. It offers refinancing facilities and subjects credit institutions to reserve requirements on the accounts opened in its books.

The BCRG keeps in its books the accounts of National Treasuries , Public Accountants, credit institutions and international financial institutions.

The BCRG ensures the quality of the fiduciary circulation.

The Bank offers all account holders in its books the opportunity to make transfers.

In addition, the Bank uses, under the conditions defined by its decision-making bodies, the own funds available to it.

BCRG and MAOI

Finally BCRG is a member of the Monetary Institute of West Africa (WAMI) which is a sub-regional institution that aims to facilitate the creation of the Central Bank of West Africa (BCAO) and the single currency for the West African Monetary Zone (WAMZ). In addition to Guinea, its member states are Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.
