CAWST, the Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology, is a nonprofit organisation that provides training and consulting to organizations that work directly with populations in developing countries who lack access to clean water and basic sanitation.

CAWST works with government agencies, community groups, and local and international NGOs of all sizes—in 69 countries as they develop their capacities to deliver water and sanitation programs locally.

CAWST works to catalyze community action in developing countries to initiate and operate water and sanitation programs for those who live without.

What They Do

CAWST provides professional services in water, sanitation and hygiene to organizations and individuals that work with local populations in the developing world. Their services are intended to generate local ownership and leadership for addressing water and sanitation issues. They provide the opportunity for people to make informed choices and actions by sharing knowledge and skills and facilitating discussions. 

Their services include:

• -Direct delivery of training programs - They deliver interactive training programs on 9 main topics relating to water, sanitation and hygiene.
   
• -Education materials – They create educational materials that are open content and freely available.
   
• -Education programming consulting support – They work with organizations to build their own education programs to suit the needs of their clients.
   
• -Implementation consulting support - They help their clients overcome their problems as they encounter them – technical or tactical.
   
• -Sharing latest research – They gather the latest WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) research, distill it down to the essentials and then translate it to a language that can be understood by non-experts.
   
• -Learning exchange forums for field implementers and trainers – They provide the online and person-to-person opportunities for people to share their lessons learned.
