About

The Child Rights Information Network (CRIN) is a global network promoting information and action on children's rights. We press for rights, not charity, and are guided by a passion for putting children's rights at the top of the global agenda by addressing root causes and promoting systemic change.

Our inspiration is the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), which we use to bring children's rights to the top of the international agenda. We launch advocacy campaigns, lead international children's rights coalitions, and strive to make existing human rights enforcement mechanisms accessible for all.

More than 2,100 organisations in 150 countries rely on CRIN's publications, research and information. Our network includes NGOs, government departments, academic institutions, media organisations and legal aid providers, among others.

OUR WORK

Current Campaigns

Transparency campaign: We launched a campaign to scrutinise how key positions within children's rights are filled, starting with a petition to introduce transparency into the appointment process for the Executive Director of UNICEF.

Our campaign on children and violent sentencing will seek to prohibit and eliminate all violent and inhuman forms of sentencing of children in penal systems around the world, including the death penalty, life imprisonment and corporal punishment.

Complaints Mechanism for Children: We have heavily lobbying the UN to introduce a complaints mechanism for children under the CRC, the only treaty without such a procedure. This has been adopted by the UN Human Rights Council and is awaiting adoption by the UN General Assembly.

Other Activities

CRC and strategic litigation: To promote strategic litigation as a tool for change, we are collecting and summarising case law where the CRC has been used to advance children's rights in national and regional courts for our new legal database, “CRC in Court.”

Monitoring children's rights globally: We systematically analyse how international bodies address children's rights, highlighting opportunities for advocates' input and action.

We are making information freely available in electronic and hard copy form and many different languages, including English, French, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese and Chinese. On our website, you can find out about national and international child rights laws, child rights mechanisms, and information on child rights in your country.
