China Environmental Protection Foundation (CEPF)
Founded in April 1993, China Environmental Protection Foundation (CEPF) is the first non profit organization dedicated to environmental protection in China, and an NGO in Special Consultative Status with the UN ECOSOC.
In recognition of the outstanding contributions of Professor Qu Geping, who was the first director of the National Environmental Protection Agency and former chairman of the National People's Congress Environment and Resources Protection Committee, to participate in and lead China’s environmental protection undertaking, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in June 1992. At the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, Professor Qu Geping received the United Nations Environment Award and $100,000 in prize money. After winning the award, Prof. Qu Geping proposed setting up the China Environmental Protection Foundation on the basis of this bonus to promote the development of environmental protection in China. His proposal has been widely praised and supported by all sectors of society. With the support of the relevant party and state leaders and departments, the China Environmental Protection Foundation was formally established in April 1993 . The China Environmental Protection Foundation is the first national public foundation funded by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and registered by the Ministry of Civil Affairs to specialize in environmental protection. Prof. Qu Geping became the first donor and served as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Mr. Wan Li, former Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Mr. Huang Hua, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State Council, and Mr. Cheng Siwei and Mr. Jiang Zhenghua, Vice Chairman of the National People's Congress, served as funds. The honorary chairman of the association, domestic and foreign experts, scholars and celebrities served as special advisors to the foundation. According to the "China Environmental Protection Foundation Charter", the highest authority of the China Environmental Protection Foundation is the council. The council is composed of famous people from home and abroad, representatives of all sectors of society who are enthusiastic about environmental protection, and major donors. The China Environmental Protection Foundation has established a strict system for the collection, management, and use of funds and has been supervised by relevant government agencies, donors, and the public. Adhering to the principle of “taking it for the people, using it for the people, protecting the environment, and benefiting the people”, it raises funds to support China’s environmental protection undertakings and supports and participates in the environmental protection actions of the international community.
Since its establishment, it has successively carried out a series of public welfare projects such as the National Environmental Awareness Survey, the China Environment Award, the Green Action of Geping, the Eco- Great Wall , the Well-to-do happiness project, the small-scale funding for university environmental protection societies, ecological sanitation, animal protection, and green education. The obvious social and environmental benefits have made positive contributions to the development of China's environmental protection and public welfare undertakings. 2005 was awarded the United Nations Economic and Social Council "special consultative status", 2008 was named "Chinese organizations assess the socio-4 A -class " units, ecological sanitation projects 2008 Nian China Charity Conference "China Charity Award - the most influential charity Project Award". In 2013, it was rated "China Social Organization Assessment 5A".
