The General Insurance Committee is the supervisory and supervisory authority for the insurance sector. It has legal personality and financial autonomy.
Missions
The General Insurance Committee ensures the protection of the rights of policyholders and beneficiaries of insurance contracts and the soundness of the financial base of insurance companies and reinsurance companies and their ability to honor their commitments.
As part of the missions assigned to it, the committee is responsible in particular for:
- the supervision of insurance companies, reinsurance companies and professions linked to the insurance sector and the monitoring of their activities,
- the study of questions of a legislative, regulatory and organizational nature relating to insurance and reinsurance operations, insurance companies and reinsurance companies submitted to him by the Minister of Finance and the preparation of draft related texts on request,
- the study of technical and economic questions relating to the development of the insurance sector and its organization and the presentation of proposals to this effect to the Minister of Finance,
- and in general, to study and give its opinion on any other matter falling within its remit.
