Concordis International works impartially alongside those involved in or affected by armed conflict, so that through dialogue they may build relationships of mutual trust and together develop and implement policies that improve human security and lay firm foundations for lasting peace.
They have offices in London and Cambridge, UK, Nouackchott Mauritania and Juba, South Sudan. They have been engaged in the Sudan/South Sudan region since 1999, including facilitating inclusive dialogue on Darfur and Eastern Sudan. Their current focus is mostly on the Sudan/South Sudan border areas, where they are mitigating conflict by facilitating agreements between migrating nomadic pastoralists and settled agriculturalists. Women play a prominent role in their processes.
Elsewhere in the world, they are working on:
• Côte d’Ivoire, where they assist the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission in breaking the 20-year cycle of political violence, initially with Ivorian diaspora and more recently in-country.
• Mauritania, where they are developing work with civil society leaders on drivers of conflict, including competition for land, the reintegration of returning refugees and unpicking the legacy of slavery. They have 4 staff here.
Previously, the organization (as NPI) established confidential dialogue that contributed to the peaceful ending of South African apartheid, and subsequently in Rwanda, developing consensus among senior Tutsis and Hutus on agricultural recovery and post-conflict justice and reconciliation.
More broadly, they actively cooperate with others active in security, peacebuilding and development, for example through the Alliance for Peacebuilding, EPLO and other forums and by contributing to the development of peacebuilding practice.
