About

Caabu (the Council for Arab British Understanding) is an award-winning NGO whose mission is to work for a British Middle East policy that promotes conflict resolution, human rights and civil society. It is one of the most active NGOs working on the Middle East in British parliament since its establishment in 1967, taking on an active advocacy, educational and media role.

The oldest and largest organisation of our type, Caabu is a cross-party group with 107 parliamentary members and 650 general members. We coordinate events and parliamentary briefings on the Middle East, in addition to taking delegations to the region so politicians can see the situation first-hand. We have taken 49 parliamentary delegations since 1997, involving over 200 MPs and Peers.

They also maintain an active public events programme, holding frequent events both in parliament and in their board room, featuring expert speakers on a wide range of topics. Recently Caabu has hosted events with Ross Burns and Christopher Phillips on Syria, Hisham Hellyer and Jack Shenker on Egypt, Peter Oborne and Nawal Al-Maghafi on Yemen and Nabila Ramdani on European Muslims.
