Crude Accountability

Crude Accountability is an environmental and human rights nonprofit organization that works with communities in the Caspian and Black Sea regions, who battle threats to local natural resources and the negative impacts on their health. Crude Accountability works on the local, national, regional, and international levels in partnership with active communities and organizations committed to a just and environmentally sustainable world. Based in Alexandria, Virginia, Crude Accountability also collaborates with environmental organizations in the United States working on similar issues.

Crude Accountability does not accept funding from the petroleum industry. All of their funding comes from individuals and private foundations.

History

Crude Accountability was incorporated in March 2003 by seven environmental activists who worked together on an innovative regional environmental program in the Caspian Sea region. Based in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, Turkmenistan, and the US, their founders established Crude Accountability to protect the natural environment of the Caspian Sea and ensure environmental and human rights for communities impacted by natural resource development.
