Darden Foundation & Community Affairs
Darden Restaurants is recognized for a culture that rewards caring for and responding to people. That defines service for Darden. These values were inspired by Darden's founder, Bill Darden. The Darden Restaurants, Inc. Foundation works to bring to life this spirit of service through its philanthropic support of charitable organizations across the country as well as the volunteer involvement of Darden Restaurants' employees. With more than 2,000 restaurants, Darden strives to have an enduring and positive influence on the communities it serves.
The Darden Restaurants, Inc. Foundation does this by focusing its philanthropic efforts on the following key program areas:
Access to Postsecondary Education
Their Recipe for Success ™
initiative supports organizations that positively impact the educational prospects of underserved youth, ages 14 to 18, by providing them with access to the information and tools they need to pursue their dreams of higher education.
Preservation of Natural Resources
They support organizations whose mission is to protect wildlife, restore and preserve ecosystems and teach environmental sustainability.
Good Neighbor Grants
Good Neighbor Grants allow Darden to partner with vital organizations such as Habitat for Humanity International, the American Red Cross and Feeding America food banks, which are core to the success and vibrancy of every community they serve. In Central Florida, Good Neighbor Grants also support educational, arts & cultural and social services organizations we have long supported. It also reflects their partnerships with Heart of Florida United Way and United Arts of Central Florida.
Darden is actively committed to sustainability. Our business depends on available, affordable, high-quality natural resources. This is why they have chosen to focus our sustainability efforts on preserving, conserving and enhancing our ecosystems. They will strive to be more sustainable by creating value while balancing the well-being of their society, our environment, and their business, now and for generations.
Over the past several years, Darden has invested in sustainability-related activities. They developed a sustainability strategy and established an Office of Sustainability and an internal Sustainability Leadership Council. They are now working to identify and spread sustainable best practices throughout the company. They are also partnering with their suppliers and key stakeholders to protect resource availability and create long-term collective value through innovative approaches to ecosystem conservation and enhancement.
